BUILDINGS AND STRUCTURES IN PALSGAARD MANOR PARK
Gildehallen
Estate owner Einar Viggo Schou was a visionary leader who placed great emphasis on the well-being of his employees. He believed it was important that the staff had the opportunity to relax and feel part of a community after a long day at work.
Inspired by the banquet hall at the world's largest margarine factory, in Southall in England, of which Schou was co-owner, he had Gildehallen built in 1915.
Gildehallen became a central part of Schou's vision: a place where employees could meet, enjoy cultural events and strengthen their social ties. Schou also recognised that night and evening shift workers often struggled to stay awake, so he established a library in the hall to provide them with reading material. The library was also open to the local community on selected days.
Today, Gildehallen is still in active use. It serves as a venue for sports and social activities such as gymnastics, yoga, and badminton, and hosts events and celebrations for Palsgaard employees. It is also used by the Palsgaard Summer Play during the summer season.
Gildehallen remains a vibrant symbol of Schou's values and strong sense of community at Palsgaard.
