BUILDINGS AND STRUCTURES IN PALSGAARD MANOR PARK
The Observatory
The Danish diplomat and foreign minister Holger Christian Reedtz, who owned Palsgaard from 1835 to 1857, played a key role in negotiating peace after the First Schleswig War (1848-1851) against Germany. Known for his intellect, Reedtz had a passion for astronomy and built a star observatory in the park.
Later, the observatory was converted into a tea pavilion by the German prince Emil von Schoenaich-Carolath, who owned Palsgaard from 1877 to 1898. The original telescope, which remained in the Reedtz family for generations has since returned and can now be seen in the main building at Palsgaard.
