Konen med hundene (Woman with the dogs), Hanne Varming
SCULPTURES IN PALSGAARD MANOR PARK
Konen med hundene
(Woman with the dogs)
Made of bronze.
Artisy: Hanne Varming
Many of Hanne Varming's sculptures originate from everyday scenes - glimpses of situations, people who appear, the essence of a particular moment, age or emotion. This bronze sculpture of a full-figured woman with her two small dogs captures that same spirit. There is a softness and maternal quality to the scene, and one sense the tenderness it conveys
"Konen med hundene"(The lady with the dogs) can also be experienced at Valby Tingsted, a place Hanne Varming could view from the window of her former studio. It is said, that several of her ideas have arisen from situations that have unfolded in this particular place.

About the artist
Hanne Varming was born on 13 May 1939 in Copenhagen. She studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts from 1958-65 under the guidance of Gottfred Eickhoff and Mogens Bøggild, and made her debut at the Charlottenborg Spring Exhibition in 1963.
Hanne Varming was a member of the artists' association Kammeraterne from 1974 to 2001 and has been a member of the Artists' Association Corner since 2001.
From 1986 to 1993, she worked as a medalist at the Royal Danish Mint, where she designed the obverse of the 10- and 20-krone coins.
Hanne Varming is a beloved Danish artist whose sculptures can be found in public spaces throughout Denmark, including Kultorvet, Victor Borges Plads in Copenhagen and at Valby Tingsted. Less publicly accessible are four of her large sculptures located in the prison yards at East Jutland's State Prison.
Hanne Varming's sculptures are known for their human forms - clearly expressing age, gender, and emotional presence - yet they do not portray specific individual. Instead, they reflect universal life situations, stages, and feelings in a concentrated and recognizable way.
