THE HISTORY BEHIND PALSGAARD
Palsgaard Manor through the ages
The history of Palsgaard Manor dates back to the Middle Ages, with the first known owner, Jep Kalv, mentioned in 1372. Originally, the buildings were located about 1.5 kilometers from their current position. The remains of the original site can still be visited in the forest at Ashoved. In the 15th century, the building was constructed in its present location and has since undergone several renovations.
Palsgaard's three-winged main building took its current appearance after a major reconstruction in 1803-05. However, the building's thick masonry reveals that its core originates from the 15th-century medieval stone house, and the vaulted cellars also can be dated to this time. Originally, the building was surrounded by water, and it is still partly encircled by moats today.
